On the east side wall

meridiana est

a park’s elf, waking up and yawning, indicating with the hand’s shadow how many hours from the sunrise.

The motto, in local dialect: “it is time to wake up” The indicator’s shadow will be on the left curved line on the 21st of June, summer‘s solstice, and on right curved line on the 21st of December, winter’s solstice.

On the south side wall

meridiana suda painted sun dial remembers the agricultural tradition of this old home and show the official day’s hour The motto, in Latin language: “There’s always time for friends”.

The indicator’s shadow will be on top curved line on the 21st of December, winter’s solstice; on the straight line in the middle, the 21st March and the 23rd of September, equinoxs, on the bottom curved line 21st June, summer’s solstice.

On the west side wall

meridiana ovest a big stone’s sun dial shows the hours until sunset. This kind of calculation was used in Italy until the 1800s and so denominated “Italian hours”.

The motto ”and is suddenly evening” is from a lyric of the 1959 Nobel prize winner Salvatore Quasimodo. The indicator’s shadow will be on the left curved line the day 21st of December, winter’s solstice, and on right curved line the 21st June, summer’s solstice.
